NC police dept. investigating beating complaints

READ MORE:
BRYSON CITY, N.C. -- The Bryson City police chief says he is looking into allegations that an officer beat a man being taken into custody. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Thursday that more than a dozen restaurant patrons saw 25-year-old Jacob Grant getting beaten. Some recorded it on cell phone cameras. Chief Rick Tabor told the newspaper that officer Leon Allen was taking Grant into custody on an involuntary commitment order. Witnesses say Grant refused to get into the patrol car and walked away. Grant's father, Raleigh Grant, told the newspaper he had the order issued for his schizophrenic son because he needed help getting back on his medication. He said authorities took his son to the hospital Tuesday for treatment. At least eight witnesses filed complaints and Grant said he planned to as well. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. Word of advice to the

Word of advice to the father. Next time your son needs help, do it yourself and leave the police out of it. If he didn't want to be manhandled he shouldn't have resisted. On involuntary commitments, the subject has to go with you whether they want to or not. That being said, I havent seen the video of the "beating" but I don't think the father should complain for a situation he created.

ALTHOUGH THERE WILL BE MANY

ALTHOUGH THERE WILL BE MANY OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT I DO BELIEVE THAT THE OFFICER COULD AND SHOULD HAVE HANDLED IT DIFFERENTLY. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD FROM SEVERAL OF THE WITNESSES WAS THAT THE OFFICER CONTINUED TO BEAT THE MAN WHEN HE HAD HIS HANDS UP AND WAS NOT THREATENING THE OFFICER. I THINK THE OFFICER LOST HIS TEMPER BECAUSE THE SUBJECT WOULD NOT COOPERATE AT WHICH TIME HE COULD HAVE WAITED FOR BACKUP OR COULD HE NOT WITH HIS TRAINING TACKLED THE MAN AND HANDCUFFED HIM. WHY BEAT THE MAN?

Not Dad's Fault

Sorry, but I disagree with you. The police are trained to handle situations like this, and are required to follow certain protocol. First of all, more than one officer should have been involved...there's just too much missing from this story to make any determinations.
