ASHEVILLE -- The state of North Carolina has sent a $88,866 tax bill to two people charged with marijuana offenses after Buncombe County authorities seized 114 plants this summer.
Darwin Bisping is a pizza delivery driver who was charged with manufacturing marijuana and trafficking in July after the plants were found at his Asheville home. Housemate Jennifer McCart also was charged.
Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan says officials notify state revenue agents when a drug arrest is made. The Asheville Citizen-Times reports Thursday that state law allows taxation of illegal drugs.
Bisping says he doesn't think it is right to be taxed on "something you can't even legally grow."

Learn about why these drugs are illegal
#1 Anyone who thinks marajuana should be legal need to go and read a few books about the drug. Though it has a SINGLE medicinal use as a pain killer in miniscule amounts, there are about a dozen things that counter act that.
#2 I think our Government does tax a little high on us general population, but this high tax for illegal drug growing shows those who try to do illegal acts whose boss, if they want to do the crime then they can pay the price for it wheterh jail, money, or both, as for the government taking all land or property possed by or lended, i think they should check all possible leads and take what is neccessary, and if the land or propperty was lent then it should be returned if the owner is innocent, but still Government is in charge and what they say goes, sorry its the way it is, way it always was, annd way it always will be. So go brush up on some drug knowledge, and then figure out why it is illegal.
Yes! Yes! Grow it leagally!
I mean, the wonderful affects of this drug far outweigh any of the negatives. For instance you can smoke it and still reach your greatest potential. I mean, look at the job it landed for this guy. I wander how many pizzas he'll have to deliver to pay off $90,000.00. It can help you relax too! So much so that you will more than likely eventually just quit worrying about working at all. And I'm sure mom won't mind you stealing a few dollars from her when you run out and "just really need to party a little". She can do without whatever she needs. Ofcourse you won't have to worry about doing that until after you've sold or traded everything that you got for Christmas since you were 8 years old. And then there's the great social structure it builds for you. Pot heads all across the land have some pretty important common bonds like, irresponsibility, unemployment, health issues, money problems, crime, jail and high tax bills!
The worst thing about the
The worst thing about the marijuana tax is that they will come & take your vehicles & your property and you will still have to pay off the loan on them! This is not if you are found "guilty" just if you are charged with it. Where is the justice in that?! Imagine if your parents have several acres of property & someone decides to borrow a back corner of it to plant a small crop? Yes, they are charged and loose everything they've worked their whole lives for. Doesn't matter if it's not their's. They own the property and they are "charged" so they are responsible for the outrageous tax bill. I have personally seen this happen to someone. This has to be stopped! Law enforcement told them they didn't care if it was their's or not, either they confiscated the property or they took them to jail, that simple. In my opinion, this is the work of legalized mofia!
This is crazy. Marijuana
This is crazy. Marijuana should be legalized and then sold at a high tax rate. I cant believe we are focusing on this instead of the real issue.
Why don't we go after the US Banks that launder the drug money instead and the US government since they are also big in drug trafficing.
Do a search on Google about this.
You don't "sell" at a high tax rate...
You sell your goods and they are taxed at a high rate. Somehow, I believe your knowledge of basic economics is lacking.
You are crazy. Marijuana?
Yes. We should absolutely legalize marijuana.
Then take on the corrupt governments! Because we do know the government is quite bad. They do bad things like start wars and confinscate my stash!
In conclusion, I wouldn't base my political rehtoric on information found by googling "drugs" on the internet.
"Marijuana should be
"Marijuana should be legalized and then sold at a high tax rate"
I agree/disagree...Marijuana should be legalized and then sold at a *normal tax rate* such as 8% of its value. Don't approve its use and sales only because of a dollar profit for the government. There again, our government would put such a high valued price tag on this product, only the ones in the higher income bracket could afford buying this from their local drug store...kinda the way legal drugs are bought and paid for now except the insurance companies pay most of the tab.
For years (decades) we have been led to believe that this plant is a killer and *always leads* to Cocaine/LSD use/etc. A mind set society has plagued itself for years with.
Marijuana was always associated with the hippie movement/Jimi Hendrix type drug parties where everyone dead bolted their doors/drew the curtains and whispered as one smoked. Believe it or not...there were those that smoked pot in the 60's/70's that only listen to Classical music (i.e) those that worked in government positions. Go figure???
It was an absolute joke and unnecessary self punishment to do these things in hiding. Never was the case with alcohol except for the under aged to sneak an occasional beer or cigarette behind the garage when Mom/Dad wasn't looking and in fear the police were going to take you away for years to prison.
Read this article, and in particular about Alaska's state laws governing Marijuana possession in the info block on article 2.21 United States:

I wonder what John McCain's running mate would have to say about this article...If Asked.
Love to hear her response :-)

North Carolina has always
North Carolina has always been in the dark ages where common sense is concerned. It is legal to rot your body with alcohol and tobacco (and everyone around you with tobacco), but marijuana is illegal. What kind of sense does this make? As long as these religious nuts that can't think out of the box and 80 year old conservatives make our laws, we will have to live with this nonsense.
and the point of you saying
and the point of you saying that was?...
