Former First Lady Mary Easley has been fired from her job at N.C. State. On Monday, UNC System President Erskine Bowles announced Mary Easley's termination from her $170,000 a year job, shortly after the school's chancellor resigned. Meanwhile, e-mails released by N.C. State indicate the former governor was involved in the school's hiring of his wife, who had refused to step down despite calls from top university officials. In a statement released today by the university, Chancellor James Oblinger said he's stepping down because the scrutiny of a job given to former First Lady Mary Easley is a distraction for the school. Oblinger is the third person to resign from the leadership of the university as a result of the Easley investigation. Provost Larry Nielsen and Board Chariman McQueen Campbell resigned last month.

State Disservice

It is terrible and traiterous to the State of NC for a acting Governor to use political influence to make a high paying job for a wife. Her $80,000 dollar raise alone was more than 95% of the annual salary for all State employees. In a time when Politicians are making State employees take salary cuts they decide they want to take more public funds to fatten their wallets. It is criminal and wrong and as a State employee I resent her even being hired much less at $180,000 a year for nothing. Her services did nothing for the State other than give her a job. These investigations on Easley I hope put him in Prison. He can room next to Thomas Wright while they discuss their time in politics.

Mary Easley

The right move, only it took way too long for those with the authority, to exercise it. We live in a new era. An era that demands accountability and responsibility. If those that we have put into positions which require responsible, accountable and timely decisions are not willing or able to exercise proper and expedient judgement, then perhaps we should consider changing the leadership. Past due....

Well.... good move there Erskine. **golf clap**

about time

About time somebody stepped up to the plate and took her out. You know she would milk that cashcow as long as she could.

reform

More good ol boy walls come tumbling down.

It's about time!

Mary Easley's job was nothing more than pure political patronage. Sadly, some fine folks at NC State left before she did. I think if the "layers of the onion" were peeled enough, we'd find Tax-Hike Mike Easley was very involved in her getting the job to begin with. This whole fiasco stunk from the very beginning. Now, if we could just root-out the rest of the corrupt politicians we have in Raleigh for starters...then on to DC and do the same before this fine state and country go totally bankrupt at the hands of both the Democrats and Republicans. For those of you who voted for Obama... I hope this is the "change you can believe in."

She had to be thrown out.

Just as Mike Nifong, Jim Black, Thomas Wright, Meg Scott Phipps....They've done nothing wrong.
