WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The controversy continues with the Dudley Mansion in Downtown Wilmington. The owners may face criminal charges after this weekend.

Phoebe Bragg lives next door to the historic mansion, where she said a wedding took place Saturday Night. Bragg said she woke up Sunday morning to find sparklers thrown on her newly painted porch and backyard. Bragg filed a police report and intends to press arson and intentional malice charges.

The city is suing the Dudley Mansion for violating city zoning ordinances. In July a judge denied a preliminary injunction to stop the owners from hosting special events like weddings.

Response to " talking to police"

There were many well known Wilmington residents at Saturdays wedding, whom would gladly speak with police. Because they have done no wrong, unlike someone who is known to make complaints on a regular bases. Maybe the Wilmington police should start looking into who is causing the problems, guests at the Dudley Mansion or Mrs. Bragg who is a well known complainer.

This is part of the historic district

Can't they still have duels? They could settle it once and for all.

OMG !!!

I can't believe that the neighbor called the police and the media. Get a grip !!!!!

Ms. Bragg is just pi**ed that the ruling in July didn't go her way, now she wants to make it H**L I feel sorry for the ones that have to live near her..

Phoebe Bragg has got to get a grip and GET OVER HERSELF !!!!
she is a laughing stock now.. I hope that is what she wanted...

LOL !!!!!!

low class!!!

I ATTENDED THIS WEDDING AND THE SPARKLERS WERE USED WHEN THE BRIDE AND GROOM WALKED DOWN THE DRIVE WAY AND IT WAS DONE UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE MANSION.THEY ALSO HAD BUCKETS OF SAND EVERY THREE FEET FOR THEM TO BE PUT OUT.I WOULD ALSO BET THAT LOW CLASS PEOPLE CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THERE WEDDINGS AT THIS LOCATION.THE BOTTOM LINE IS PEOPLE ARE UPSET BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE WEDDINGS. SO DO NOT TAKE IT OUT ON A NEW BRIDE AND GROOM THAT HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE SITUATION,THAT TO ME IS LOW CLASS.IT SEEMS THAT EVERY FUNCTION AT THIS ADDRESS THE POLICE ARE CALLED3 TIMES AND THERE ARE CITATIONS WRITTEN. I AM TOLD THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME, WHAT KIND OF CLASS IS THAT.

CONCERNED CITIZEN!!!!!!!!!

class?

"I WOULD ALSO BET THAT LOW CLASS PEOPLE CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THERE WEDDINGS AT THIS LOCATION."

Don't bet the farm Hon. Just because someone has money does NOT mean they have class.

BTW do low class people know the difference between "there" and "their"?

Dudley is now an Expensive Party and Puke Venue

In response to Concerned Citizen

Thank you so much for sharing that the sparklers were "Done under the supervision of the people who run the mansion." I have seen the remanents of the sparklers on the neighbor's property and the burn debris lay all about them. They were clearly lit when thrown. They went over a five foot fence and about 8 feet on to the property. There were about half a dozen of them. This was clearly intentional. Are you willing to talk to the police and tell them this was done under the supervision of the people who run the mansion? Yes, I also saw that the ones on the Dudley Property were carefull extinguished in a pot full of sand as they can be very dangerous if left about. I think the police would be interested in hearing this as well.

You are very welcomed for

You are very welcomed for the information. The police would also be interested in knowing which neighbor makes the false phone noise calls starting around 9:30 to the police. To my knowledge it happens every time there is a wedding at the Dudley property. But I think that is already being looked into as of Monday. But AFTER watching the news last night the neighbor should know seeings how she video tapes the ceremonies, I am sure that is also against some type of law as well. The news also showed Beer bottles on there lawn, there was not any beer bottles present that night and I bet she did not find a keg on her prperty because that is how the puke party served it. KARMA will always come back to those that deseerve it. WOW I WOULD BE ASHAMED TO LIVE AND BE YOUR NEIGHBORS, YOU SOUND LIKE SUCH NICE FOLKS, PROBLEY RELOCATED FROM THE NORTH. I hope he continues to have weddings and P**S every one of you off. He is not hurting anything. But he is still having them after all the money and time and energy spent by his neighbors to stop them. Looks like to me anger is what drives the false phone callsabout noise and such. THANK YOU FOR WAISTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY SO WE CAN ALL LAUGH AT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!!!

GOOD LUCK IN COURT!!!!

response to concerned citizen

There were many well known, respected Wilmington residents who attended Saturdays wedding. And I am sure anyone of them would be glad to speak to the police, because they have done no wrong, unlike someone who is known to make these complaints on a regular base, each time there is a function held at the Dudley Mansion. The police may be starting to wonder who is intentionally doing wrong, guest or Mrs. Bragg, who is a well know complainer.

Are you Serious

Really? You are gona press charges? The neighborly thing to do would be to go knock on the door and ask them to clean up the mess that floated into your yard. It appears the wedding did not disturb you from sleeping so no malice took place. This world has become so petty that it is ridiculous. What happened to love thy neighbor. I understand it can be annoying and upsetting sometimes for others to violate your space but the owners of the Dudley Mansion pay a pretty penny for it, and it is sad when you can't do what you want with your own property.

Dudley Mansion Party House

The "sparklers" are over two feet long on a quarter inch steel shaft and have a burning surface over 18 inches long - I saw them. These sparklers, I mean pyrotechnics, in the hands of a bunch of drunks become dangerous.

It is amazing how many "bloggers" who live somewhere else, have so many opinions on how others should live their lives. Go pick up some trash, visit an older person and try to make your own world better. Thanks, love you, mean it!

What happened to respect thy neighbor.

It's called consideration. Yes it's their property, but would you want you neighbor throwing a party with loud music every weekend and people throwing sparklers on your porch possibly catching your house on fire? You actually blame the people that live next to the Dudley mansion? Wow. Maybe I'll buy the property next to you and turn into a frat house and let them throw beer cans into your yard and pump loud music every weekend.

Arson? Where was the fire?

Arson? Where was the fire? Malice? Who, the Dudley owners or the "victim"? The only malice I see is from the whining, crying neighbors.

Sparklers can cause Fire

The sparklers were on her porch. They could have caused a fire.

Downtown Wilmington doesn't need another party and puke venue. You can tell the class of people who attended this wedding by their behavior. Only low-class beer guzzlers would throw lighted sparklers on another's property.

In addition to causing a potential fire, they littered. They are members of the bourgeoning littering class that is taking over downtown Wilmington.

Malice displayed by the wedding guests? Indeed.

Time for the police department to take action.

DownFrown Wilmington

I must say that after reading this post, the only thing bourgeoning is the lack of class displayed here. Can such a rash statement be ejaculated about party beverages, if the ejaculator in question did not attend the affair and note said beverages? I did attend this wedding, which included an open bar serving various wines, liquor--and yes, beer. Such hospitalities are graciously offered to guests whom vary tastebud to tastebud. This is not the type of couple that wished the happiest event of their lives to be "another party and puke venue." If so, why not just have their wedding at a fraternity house, let alone one of Wilmington's most pretigious, historical mansions? Harsh and unfounded generalizations can only be derived from comments like, "Only low-class beer guzzlers would throw lighted sparklers on another's property." If a sparkler was tossed on a neighbor's property, that is disconcerting indeed, but the happy couple does not deserve to be berated in such a fashion.

Sparklers can indeed cause

Sparklers can indeed cause fire, but who's to say whether or not the sparklers were lit when they entered the neighboors yard. If it did indeed happen it is not a cool thing at all, but I am with the person above, walk over there and talk to someone, I'm sure they would be glad to remedy whatever they could.

And implying that the people who attended the wedding were "low-class beer guzzlers" and members of the "littering class" is beyond ridiculous.

But, lets make sure to judge the people celebrating a marriage and not the people who contacted the media and police instead of the people involved... Makes a ton of sense. SMH

I say walk over and talk it out, ask them to clean it up and move on. There's no reason for it to be in the media.
