New chief in Burgaw

Burgaw has a new police chief and he is a familiar face. Bill King has been serving as interim police chief since last month. He was officially sworn in this morning. Chief King has been with the police department for the past 10 years. He also was part of the Pender County Sheriff's Department for more than 8 years. His previous service proved to many community members that he deserves the promotion. ”He's always first in line when it comes to protecting our town with any problems that we have. We can always go to Bill with any problems that we have. We are very fortunate to have him as our new chief of police,” said Elaine Tyson, a Burgaw resident. King will now direct a department of 12 officers and staff.

Chief King was one of my BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) instructors. I was impressed with his patience and genuine concern for the well-being of his students. Congratulations Chief King!!!
