New Hanover County Sheriff's Office receives grant money

WILMINGTON -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office has just received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money that they'll be putting to use in our community. $40,000 from the Office of Justice will go to hire an additional case manager for the gang task force. A $9,000 grant from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation will be used to purchase automatic electronic deliberators to be used by officers while on patrol. Another $250,000 from the Department of Homeland Security will buy improvised explosive device detection equipment, equipment for a helicopter and equipment for a boat to be housed at Carolina Beach Police Department. The department also got funds to purchase new bullet proof vests and fingerprinting equipment.

Two thirds of this tiny county have city police groups and the entire county is covered by the State patrol and you legal citizen taxpayers are paying every dime of all of it. Let's cut this program (NHCSD) by AT LEAST two thirds immediately. Of course we would have to know how much they are receiving and spending first. Where do we taxpayers find that information again???? Maybe then they can get honest jobs where people respect them. I want my money back.

Now maybe they will quit

Now maybe they will quit calling my home once a year asking for money. That's ridiculous to be asking residents for donations with the amount of taxes (city/county) we pay per year. "Sorry Charlie"

"Another $250,000 from the Department of Homeland Security will buy improvised explosive device detection equipment,..." IED's are a real problem here...I(ntelligent) E(ducated) D(eputies)...the problem is, is we don't have many I.E.D's...just a bunch of jack-booted thugs with attitudes.

Can you do a better job?

If you think you can do a better job, go out and do it. It takes a real man to sit behind a computer and tell everyone they are doing a lousy job. Be a man and try to do what they do every day. Actions speak louder than words. Let's see some action
