Senators RC Soles and Julia Boseman are pushing a bill to make North Carolina a little greener. The senators support a pair of bills that would offer incentives to green builders in New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties. The bill would allow higher building density for builders who use alternative energy sources and ease demand for public transportation and storm water runoff. New Hanover County Planner Chris O'Keefe said the new incentives won't just apply to large commercial projects. “So that developers who may just have a small piece of property could take advantage of the incentives and build a more sustainable project, a more energy efficient project.” Green builders could also save on permitting fees and receive faster approval for projects. O'Keefe said green buildings should help entice more people to come to New Hanover County.
