Wilmington's Lenny Simpson to enter Black Tennis Hall of Fame

videoWilmington resident and legendary tennis professional Lenny Simpson will be inducted into the Black Tennis Hall of Fame later this month. Simpson turned professional in 1973 and was the first African-American to play World Team Tennis. Simpson qualified for Wimbledon in 1974.

Commissioner John Swofford put the ACC in the spotlight for a news conference at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The Wilmington Sharks dropped a close baseball game at home against Morehead City. Empie Park's Althea Gibson Tennis Center in Wilmington has been up and running for more than a year, but subcontractors who worked on the city park have still not been paid.

City Council says Althea Gibson Tennis Complex will not be privatized

Wilmington City Council Tuesday night made clear it will not privatize the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex at Empie Park. Instead it will seek a public-private partnership with the Althea Gibson Foundation.

McEnroe, Martin serve up support for Althea Gibson Tennis Center
