Puppies found in pillowcase on Blue Ridge Parkway

Animal control officials in Haywood County are taking care of seven newborn puppies after they were found tied up in a pillowcase and left on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Area media outlets report the puppies appeared to be two days old when they were found Sept. 5.

Bald eagle rescue out of the ordinary even for Oak Island's Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter

After years of caring for injured birds and wildlife, Mary Ellen Rogers is accustomed to helping unusual species, such as loons, razorbills, shearwaters and others found far at sea or far away. While their numbers are rebounding locally, the arrival of two American bald eagles recently was a watershed moment for Oak Island’s Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter.

ONLY ON 3: Animal rescuers say hunters abandoning dogs is once again becoming an issue

video Animal Rescue groups across Brunswick County say that with the recent end of hunting season, many hunters are abandoning their hound dogs. They say these strays end up on people's porches starving or are often times hit by cars on the road.
