The United States Tennis Association has over 19,000 junior tennis teams. Obviously they're spread all across the country, but we managed to find a handful of those teams in Fayetteville over the weekend at the state junior team tennis championship. Wilmington Post 10 won the state title in 2012 and 2013. Can they make history and win the state title for American Legion baseball in 2014? If successful, they'll become the first team in North Carolina to win three consecutive state championships for American Legion baseball. Full story...

The Wilmington Hammerheads haven't won a soccer game since late May. They were hoping that would change on Friday night in Pennsylvania, but the Harrisburg City Islanders and the Hammerheads ended up with a scoreless draw. The Hammerheads will face Rochester on Saturday night in New York. The Wilmington Sharks did win though. The Sharks beat the Florence RedWolves with the addition of a new player from UNCW. Plus more! Former Ashley Screaming Eagle baseball standout Christian Wolfe has decided to put up his bat and glove for good. This means he's off the Wilmington Sharks roster. He won't be playing at UNCW anymore either. On Thursday without Christian Wolfe the Wilmington Sharks split their doubleheader with Morehead City. Wilmington Post 10 is state tournament bound. Michael Powell is the dean of high school basketball coaches in our region. He's been the head boys basketball coach for 27 years at West Columbus High School. Powell has been reassigned to rival East Columbus, but Powell may not accept the assignment. Powell may opt to retire instead. Chris Haney has resigned as the head football coach at East Columbus High School in order to go back to Ashley High. Full story...

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team concluded the domestic part of their schedule on Tuesday night with a shutout victory over Japan in Wilmington. Both squads are now headed to Amsterdam in order to compete in a collegiate tournament that will feature Team USA, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Netherlands. Plus more! Full story...

The collegiate national baseball team will make an appearance in Wilmington on Tuesday night against Japan. This will be the third game of a 3 game series for Team USA against Japan. Team USA beat Japan on Sunday in Thomasville. Japan won on Monday in Wilson. Tuesday's game in Wilmington will decide the best of three series. First pitch is slated for 6pm at Buck Hardee Field. There will be live music prior to the game at the Shark Tank. There will be a fireworks display afterwards. Full story...
