The irrepressible Winklevoss twins, known for having sued Mark Zuckerberg over the idea for Facebook, have suffered a setback from federal regulators in their push to expand the use of bitcoin to a wider universe of investors.
Gov. Pat McCrory has signed nearly a third of the bills the North Carolina legislature sent him before its annual session ended last weekend, including legislation addressing Bitcoin and how a special judicial panel examines innocence claims.
Wilmington-based Reeds Jewelers said Tuesday that it is accepting bitcoin for payment in all 64 of its retail locations and online.
Bitcoin is a digital currency that is exchanged online without using banks or other financial institutions.
