Puppies found in pillowcase on Blue Ridge Parkway

Animal control officials in Haywood County are taking care of seven newborn puppies after they were found tied up in a pillowcase and left on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Area media outlets report the puppies appeared to be two days old when they were found Sept. 5.

Pisgah Inn operator gets 10-year contract

The operator of Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway has been awarded a contract to operate for another 10 years. Bruce O'Connell told the Asheville Citizen-Times he plans to make improvements to the inn now that he has won the contract again.

This Day in NC History: Blue Ridge Parkway project approved

On November 16, 1933, the Blue Ridge Parkway project received approval. The Blue Ridge Parkway, part of the National Park Service system, extends 469 miles through the Southern Appalachians, linking the Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee.
