Boxing has been part of the Azalea Festival for 35 years. Williston Middle School in Wilmington has served as the location for the Azalea Festival boxing tournament for most of those years, but that will not be the case this April when the Azalea Festival rolls around again. The North Brunswick Scorpions made it all the way to the 2-A state finals last year in baseball. Most of last year's players are back for North Brunswick. On Monday Duplin County native Bonecrusher Smith told WWAY he's returning to the ring for a celebrity boxing event. Smith is a former WBA heavyweight champion. James “Bonecrusher” Smith, the former heavyweight champ from Magnolia held a book signing Friday night at Hooters. Smith was the first heavyweight champion with a college degree. “Bonecrusher” welcomed fans, took pictures and showed off some memorabilia from his boxing days. Full story...

James "Bonecrusher" Smith is a former heavyweight champion of the world in boxing. Smith will be hosting his own golf tournament at River Landing in early March. He stopped by WWAY to tell us all about it. On Sunday the UNCW women's basketball team appeared to be in great shape to pull off a big upset against Old Dominion, but the Seahawks were not able to hold onto a double digit lead in the second half.
