UNCW's Mark Scalf signs new contract; Sharks split doubleheader

Sharks edge SwampDogs with come from behind win on 'WWAY Night'

videoThe Wilmington Sharks defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Wednesday night at Buck Hardee Field. The road game on Thursday for the Sharks is up in the air. The status of Thursday's home soccer game for the Wilmington Hammerheads will be decided on Thursday morning.

Hammerheads tie Chicago; Sharks win

For the second Saturday in a row the Wilmington Hammerheads came from behind to force a 2-2 outcome. The Chicago Fire reserve team leaves town with a 2-2 score against the Hammerheads. Elsewhere, the Wilmington Sharks beat Petersburg on Saturday.

Former Hoggard pitcher picks up win for Sharks; Hornets unveil new uniforms

videoHoggard graduate Joe O'Donnell picked up his second win of the season on the mound on Thursday for the Wilmington Sharks. In front of one of the largest crowds of the season the Sharks beat Morehead City. Michael Jordan won't be suiting up for the Charlotte Hornets, but his team will at least look sharp. The Hornets unveiled their new uniforms on Thursday. In Pinehurst a 6th grader won over the crowd with an impressive round at the U.S. Open and a few licks of ice cream during her media conference.

Sharks win 2nd game in a row; O'Donnell named pitcher of the week

videoIt only took one outing on the mound for Hoggard graduate Joe O'Donnell to earn pitcher of the week honors in the Coastal Plain League. O'Donnell was the winning pitcher in Wilmington's first win of the season on Saturday. Without O'Donnell on the mound the Sharks won their second game in a row on Monday. Plus more!

O'Donnell & Linkous lead Sharks to first win of 2014; Hammerheads win, too

Former North Brunswick baseball standout Steven Linkous had 3 hits on Saturday night for the Wilmington Sharks. Linkous was overshadowed though by the pitching performance of former Hoggard Viking Joe O'Donnell. In fact it was O'Donnell's season debut for the Sharks. O'Donnell recently finished his freshman season at NC State. Linkous just finished his sophomore season for UNCW. In soccer the Wilmington Hammerheads edged Charlotte 2-1 on Saturday.

Signing day at Coastal Christian; Sharks now 0-3

videoCoastal Christian High School held a signing ceremony on Thursday for four student athletes. We have a full report on that. In baseball the season is still young, but the Wilmington Sharks are winless after three games in the Coastal Plain League.

Wilmington Sharks prepare for 2014 opener; meet the team & see renovations at Shark Tank

videoOn Monday we checked out the first 2014 practice for the Wilmington Sharks. We had a chance to meet the players and coaches. The Wilmington Sharks open the CPL summer league baseball season on Tuesday in Florence. The Sharks home opener will be held just a day later. During our visit to Buck Hardee Field on Monday we also checked out the renovations, which are nearly complete.
