The governor recently launched the "Career and College Promise." It lets high school students get a head start on a college education. Students can earn tuition-free course credits at community colleges, which can go toward a four-year degree.

Gov. Bev Perdue and state education officials say consolidating and refining several college credit programs for North Carolina's high school students will make young people more prepared than ever to get a job and get trained and cost them less money.
