Pat Summitt is stepping aside as Tennessee's women's basketball coach and taking the title of "head coach emeritus". UNCW men's basketball coach Buzz Peterson used to coach with Summitt at Tennessee. "One of the best basketball minds to ever coach the game, Peterson texted WWAY about Summitt. "She was such a tremendous communicator with her players. I was blessed to work beside her and to eat her excellent country cooking."

Times have been better in Seahawk basketball land. It appears UNCW will be banned from post-season play next season due to previous academic difficulties. Three players recently transferred. On Sunday might a Dallas newspaper reported UNCW head coach Buzz Peterson may be heading to SMU as an assistant coach if Larry Brown is awarded the vacant head coaching job for the Mustangs.

UNC's Tyler Zeller, NC State's CJ Williams and Duke's Miles Plumlee will be hoopin' it up at Brunswick Community College on Thursday. The ACC Barnstorming Tour all-star basketball game will be played at the Gore Center on the BCC campus.

Former Hoggard High standout Stilman White had a game high seven assists for UNC on Sunday in his second collegiate start at point guard for North Carolina. White tallied four points in 28 minutes of play. For the second time this week he did not have any turnovers.

Former Hoggard guard Stilman White played 32 minutes on Friday for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Look for those minutes to decrease if Kendall Marshall plays on Sunday in St. Louis. The All-ACC guard practiced on Saturday for the first time since breaking a bone in his wrist in Greensboro.

Friday night's jam packed sports segment featured Stilman White and the UNC Tar Heels avoiding a Sweet 16 upset. UNC will face Kansas on Sunday. We also featured Hoggard, Ashley and New Hanover's lacrosse teams in action. On top of that, we visited the Wilmington Athletic Club to check out the State Racquetball Championship.

NC State defeated Georgetown 66-63 Sunday. The Wolfpack moves onto the Sweet 16 Friday in St. Louis. North Carolina also advances. The Heels beat Creighton Sunday. Former Hoggard guard Stilman White will likely see more playing time in UNC's next game. Kendall Marshall suffered a fracture of the scaphoid bone in his right wrist.

John Henson had a great seat on the
North Carolina sideline to watch his teammates advance in the NCAA
tournament. The question is how long the Tar Heels will have to win
without him, not to mention if his sore left wrist will heal enough
to make him a factor in March at all.

The president, who correctly picked North Carolina to win the 2009 NCAA championship, has the Tar Heels as the team to beat in his 2012 bracket, which was unveiled Wednesday.
