video On Monday the Ashley boys soccer team won the Mideastern Conference regular season title with a 1-0 shutout win over New Hanover.... On Monday we checked out practice at UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs will be the first opponent for the UNCW men's basketball team in early November.... It's the Giants and Tigers in the World Series.... Plus more !

WWAY's Wednesday night sports - Sept. 19

video UNC men's basketball coach Roy Williams underwent a robotic partial nephrectomy at UNC Hospitals on Wednesday to remove a tumor from his right kidney. Williams, 62, should be able to coach when the Tar Heels begin practice on October 13th.

Laney grad Wilson commits to Coastal Carolina

Laney grad Elijah Wilson will be a Chanticleer in the near future. Wilson will be heading to Coastal Carolina where former UNCW head coach Benny Moss is currently an assistant coach.

Tar Heels looking to James for bulk up front

North Carolina needs freshman Joel James to provide some bulk up front this fall. The 6-foot-10 James has lost more than 50 pounds in the past 18 months, but he still weighs around 260 pounds.

NCAA bans UNCW men's basketball team from postseason play

video On Wednesday the UNCW men's basketball team received news it didn't want to hear. The UNCW men’s basketball team will not be allowed to compete in postseason play in the 2012-13 season due to low Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The NCAA made that announcement on Wednesday.
