Dan Forest of Raleigh took the oath of office Monday in the State Capitol Building in a small ceremony including his wife, their four children, Gov. Pat McCrory and Forest's mother, former US Rep. Sue Myrick of Charlotte.

The Democratic Party candidate for lieutenant governor says she won't seek a statewide recount in hopes the new tally would make up the nearly 7,000 votes by which she trails.

By 4:05 p.m., out of 335,927 votes counted, McIntyre's lead represents 0.16 percent of the total. Those results, though, could still change slightly as vote counts are made official in North Carolina today and submitted to the state Board of Elections.

The architect is the son of retiring US Rep. Sue Myrick, but he says his mother hasn't offered him any advice on his run for Lt. Governor. Instead, he hopes his experience out of politics as a businessman will help him reach his goal in state government, which he says needs to be run more like a business. |
