Hoggard High graduate Derek Brunson stepped back into the octagon on Wednesday for his third UFC fight. videoWilmington's Derek Brunson was more than impressive on Wednesday at his UFC fight in Kentucky. Brunson won on a first round tap out. Laney and New Hanover both won soccer playoff games. We have loads of coverage from New Hanover's win. The UNCW men's soccer team won on Wednesday to secure a first round bye in the CAA Tournament. On Tuesday we checked out "Pink Out Night" at Pender High for a volleyball match versus East Bladen. New Hanover stays tied for first in the Mideastern Conference in soccer. The Carolina Panthers finished the preseason with a winning record for only the third time in team history. videoWilmington's Derek Brunson won't be fighting in Brazil this weekend after all. Brunson's opponent was involved in a car accident just one day prior to their UFC fight. Justin Livengood is the first local baseball player to be selected in this week's MLB Draft. Livengood recently completed his senior season at UNCW. He also played for the Wilmington Sharks. On Tuesday UNCW baseball coach Mark Scalf picked up his 700th career win as the Seahawk head coach. On Tuesday Wilmington's Derek Brunson found out that his next UFC bout will be in June in Brazil. Spartans head coach Tim Pope stopped by WWAY in order to fill us in on the 4th Annual MLK Jamfest. We also featured local MMA fighter Derek Brunson. The former Hoggard Viking is now in the UFC. The Super Bowl matchup is set. It's going to be Baltimore vs. San Francisco.

videoOn Wednesday night the UNCW men's basketball team captured their second consecutive conference win. The Seahawks are now 2-3 in the CAA after a 65-60 victory over Old Dominion. On Wednesday on WWAY we also featured Wilmington's Derek Brunson. The Hoggard graduate is an MMA pro. Brunson recently won his UFC debut in Las Vegas.
