New Hanover County Schools announced today the latest dropout rate is 2.26%, the lowest it's been since the 2001-2002 academic year and lower than last year's 3.83%.

Today in his newsletter email, New Hanover County Commissioner Jason Barfield outlined some of the specific concerns he has about the way the School Board is spending money. His major issues are with two empty buildings and a third that needs a roof. However, Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley contends the county already has oversight of capital expenditures and building projects.
