Friday marked the return of Chasity Melvin to WWAY's Full Court Press. The NC State Hall of Famer made a guest appearance on Friday. This season's analyst, Kevin Schneider, had a previous basketball commitment to fulfill. We showcased a slew of basketball action on the Full Court Press. This included game action from Hoggard-New Hanover, Whiteville-East Columbus and much more including another football state championship for Wallace-Rose Hill. Full story...

Veteran boys basketball head coach Ken Cross picked up another victory on Thursday night. He's inching closer to 700 career wins with every breath. The East Bladen girls were dominant in their victory over East Columbus. Lacey Suggs tied a career high with 32 points on Thursday night. Full story...

Media Day, one of the long traditions in college basketball, took place on Wednesday for Kevin Keatts and the 2014-15 UNCW Seahawks. We were there in order to check out this year's team. Former South Columbus football standout Ethan Farmer says the UNC Tar Heel defense will continue to make progress. The 2014 high school football regular season is underway. On Friday we had coverage from several games. We expected to have a full slate, but the weather interfered with those plans. Some games were completed. Some started, but will need to be resumed. Some games never started. Full story...

The Charlotte Hornets released their upcoming schedule on Wednesday. LeBron James will only make one appearance this season in Charlotte. Monday marked the first day high school football teams could scrimmage other schools before the upcoming season. We went to the scrimmage in Hampstead in order to check out the Topsail Pirates and head coach Wayne Inman. Topsail hosted the East Columbus Gators. Mike Propst is the new Ashley head football coach, but he's certainly no stranger to being a head coach. On Wednesday we checked out football practice at Ashley High School. It didn't take long for East Columbus High to name a new head football coach. Rocky Lewis, son of legendary Clinton head coach Bob Lewis, will take over the Gators. Michael Powell is the dean of high school basketball coaches in our region. He's been the head boys basketball coach for 27 years at West Columbus High School. Powell has been reassigned to rival East Columbus, but Powell may not accept the assignment. Powell may opt to retire instead. Chris Haney has resigned as the head football coach at East Columbus High School in order to go back to Ashley High. Full story...

As mentioned last week on WWAY Laney football & basketball standout Tariq Lane will not be returning to Buctown when school starts back. Lane has decided to move to Charlotte. Lane will also re-classify, which will add another year of high school eligibility to one of the most electrifying athletes in Wilmington.
