East Columbus football coach Toby Kasell resigned on Monday in order to accept a teaching position closer to his Leland home. Former UNCW Seahawk Keith Rendleman appears to be through with his NBA pre-draft workouts. Rendleman hopes to his hear his name at Thursday's NBA Draft. The East Columbus girls basketball team won three state playoff games last week, but the season came to a crashing halt for the Gators on Tuesday night in state playoff regional play. The UNCW baseball team has had more close games this season than normal. Unfortunately the Seahawks gave up three runs in the ninth inning on the road on Tuesday. Plus more! Full story...

On Monday night on WWAY we provided a weekend recap of sports from around the region. This includes UNCW's impressive performance at the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships, UNCW baseball, high school wrestling state championship accolades and a salute to the only high school basketball team left in the state playoffs. The third round of the high school basketball state playoffs is over. We were in heavy basketball mode on Friday with our final Full Court Press of the season. See what Brett Blizzard and Kevin Schneider had to say about Hoggard's overtime loss. Wednesday turned out to be a fairly dramatic night in our region for second round state playoff action in high school basketball. We showcased six high school games plus the backyard Brunswick-Cape Fear men's college game. On top of that it was senior night at UNCW where Keith Rendleman and Matt Wilson both played their final game at Trask Coliseum. Full story...

Conference championship tournament night is in the books. The New Hanover boys won a tournament title, along with the Laney girls, the East Columbus boys, the East Columbus girls, the Whiteville boys and the Whitevile girls. State playoff action will start on Monday. Full story...

On Wednesday the CAA announced a move to Baltimore for future CAA men's basketball tournaments starting in 2014. Terry Holland is about to retire as the director of athletics at East Carolina. On Tuesday on WWAY we checked out high school basketball action from around the region. This includes the first victory of the season for the South Columbus Stallions, another win this month for 2-A North Brunswick over 4-A Laney and a snapped losing streak by the defending 4-A state champion New Hanover Wildcats.
