The third round of the high school basketball state playoffs is over. We were in heavy basketball mode on Friday with our final Full Court Press of the season. Wednesday turned out to be a fairly dramatic night in our region for second round state playoff action in high school basketball. We showcased six high school games plus the backyard Brunswick-Cape Fear men's college game. On top of that it was senior night at UNCW where Keith Rendleman and Matt Wilson both played their final game at Trask Coliseum. Full story...

Conference championship tournament night is in the books. The New Hanover boys won a tournament title, along with the Laney girls, the East Columbus boys, the East Columbus girls, the Whiteville boys and the Whitevile girls. State playoff action will start on Monday. Full story...

On Tuesday on WWAY we covered six different basketball games. This included high school basketball action from Lake Waccamaw, Whiteville and Shallotte. It also included hoops from a holiday collegiate tournament at Brunswick Community College. Full story...

On Wednesday the CAA announced a move to Baltimore for future CAA men's basketball tournaments starting in 2014. Terry Holland is about to retire as the director of athletics at East Carolina. On Tuesday on WWAY we checked out high school basketball action from around the region. This includes the first victory of the season for the South Columbus Stallions, another win this month for 2-A North Brunswick over 4-A Laney and a snapped losing streak by the defending 4-A state champion New Hanover Wildcats. Wilmington's Jay Ross is back on an NFL active roster. Former Hoggard standout Jonathan Cooper keeps raking in post season awards. Full story...

Veteran girls basketball coach Karlyn Stephens has resigned from East Columbus High School in order to accept a job at Southeastern Community College. Stephens will coach the softball team at SECC. She'll also be a physical education instructor. Monday was a light night for high school hoops, but we still managed to find action on the hardwood. Full story...
