A man who police say killed a pawn shop owner and raped a teenage girl during a "one-man crime spree" in North Carolina has been arrested in New York City after officers found him with the two loaded guns in a stolen car they tracked across two boroughs, Police Commissioner William Bratton said Wednesday.
Investigators arrested Carnes in Waterloo, Iowa, in April after facial recognition technology suggested that he applied for Iowa driver's licenses under two identities. They soon learned Carnes was wanted for escaping from prison in Huntersville, North Carolina, in August 1973, when he was serving time for the 1970 armed robbery of a convenience store.
Authorities in southern Arizona say they have arrested a fugitive who's wanted in North Carolina for kidnapping and indecent liberties with a child.
Pima County Sheriff's officials say the Concord Police Department in North Carolina asked them to find 21-year-old Lindon Claridge, who reportedly was living in Tucson.
