New heat advisory guidelines for sports for schools in New Hanover County

New guidelines are now in place for students participating in sports in New Hanover County. These guidelines are effective beginning July 1, 2014. The guidelines specifically address heat concerns, water breaks and other related issues with students participating in sports on hot days.

Days after earliest snow, Wilmington sets record high temperature

Wilmington set a record low temperature of 29 degrees Wednesday morning And recorded the city's earliest snow ever. And less than a week later, today wilmington broke a record high temperature of 83 degrees.

Death Valley recognized as world's hottest spot

An international team of weather experts has named California's Death Valley the world's hottest place. The World Meteorological Organization says the title comes after it investigated a long-held record from El Azizia, Libya, and found that an inexperienced weather observer recorded the temperature incorrectly.

Heat may have contributed to NC woman's death

Searing weekend heat is being blamed for hastening the death of a McDowell County woman. McDowell County Sheriff's Office Capt. Shanon Smith says emergency responders, a local medical examiner, and the 73-year-old woman's physician agree the heat could have contributed to the death of Peggy Sue Burleson.
