Davidson County coach faces charges

The head football coach at a Davidson County high school has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a child. Multiple media outlets reported that 44-year-old Joseph Ray Cullen Jr., of Mooresville was arrested last week.

NC SAT scores slightly higher, below national rate

Average scores for public school seniors taking the SAT rose two points in 2014, but their overall scores were slightly below the national average. A statement from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction on Tuesday said the state's critical reading score of 499 surpassed the nation's reading score of 497.

Freddie Jackson headlines local contingent of signees on national letter of intent day

video Wednesday is national letter of intent day. That means a handful of student athletes throughout the Cape Fear region officially committed to their collegiate choice. This includes a New Hanover basketball guard who will play at UNC Wilmington next year. Freddie Jackson signed with the Seahawks on Wednesday. He's part of an 8 member class. 6 of the 8 signed with UNC Wilmington on Wednesday.
