The North Brunswick Scorpions have not been afraid to play from behind all season. On Saturday the Scorpions fell behind, but they had the lead going into the final inning of play. Piedmont scored twice in the bottom of the 7th to claim the state 2-A baseball title. Full story...

The Wilmington Sharks won their home opener on Wednesday night at Buck Hardee Field. The Sharks are off to a 2-0 start. The Portland Timbers beat the Wilmington Hammerheads in the US Open Cup. In 1950 Tanky Meier started coaching the New Hanover High boys tennis team. Meier was a volunteer coach from 1950 to 2011. The 90 year old died on Monday after a short illness. On our sports at 11pm we paid tribute to the first New Hanover grad to have a sports facility named after him. On Tuesday the Wilmington Sharks opened the 2013 season with a road win. Plus more! North Brunswick defeated Northwood 10-5 on Monday night in game three of a best of three series in Pittsboro to secure the 2-A east title for high school baseball. The North Brunswick Scorpions had to win on Saturday night in order to remain alive in the baseball state playoffs. The Scorpions definitely saved their best effort for the end of the game in Leland. The Ashley boys track and field team captured first place in the championship track meet for the Mideastern Conference. It's the fourth year in a row for Ashley earning top honors.
