Pending school board approval West Brunswick has a new head baseball and football coach. Bob Hanna was up for board approval on Tuesday night in order to be the new West Brunswick football head coach. Hanna has been the head football coach at Irmo High School in Columbia, South Carolina the last 20 years. Pending school board approval the new head baseball coach at West Brunswick High is T.J. Spivey. He's been the head baseball coach at South Columbus the last two years. Full story...

As mentioned last week on WWAY Laney football & basketball standout Tariq Lane will not be returning to Buctown when school starts back. Lane has decided to move to Charlotte. Lane will also re-classify, which will add another year of high school eligibility to one of the most electrifying athletes in Wilmington. Eight players with local ties were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft over the weekend. We have a detailed report on those selections. The Whiteville baseball squad certainly made it exciting on Saturday. The Wolfpack squad had to score at least one run in the 7th inning to keep their season alive. As it turns out they scored two. Whiteville in a come from behind win captured the 1-A state baseball title on Saturday. The Whiteville softball team finished as the 1-A runner-up. Full story...

Topsail High held off a late rally from Piedmont High to capture the 3-A baseball state championship on Saturday. Topsail pitcher Trent Hansley was named the MVP of the championship series. Full story...

It only took one outing on the mound for Hoggard graduate Joe O'Donnell to earn pitcher of the week honors in the Coastal Plain League. O'Donnell was the winning pitcher in Wilmington's first win of the season on Saturday. Without O'Donnell on the mound the Sharks won their second game in a row on Monday. Plus more! Full story...

Friday night belonged to the Whiteville Wolfpack. The Whiteville Wolfpack softball team captured the 1-A East Championship. The Whiteville Wolfpack baseball team had to wait until Saturday, but they won the 1-A East Championship too! Both team are now state title bound. Full story...
