The East Columbus girls basketball team won three state playoff games last week, but the season came to a crashing halt for the Gators on Tuesday night in state playoff regional play. The UNCW baseball team has had more close games this season than normal. Unfortunately the Seahawks gave up three runs in the ninth inning on the road on Tuesday. Plus more! Full story...

On Monday night on WWAY we provided a weekend recap of sports from around the region. This includes UNCW's impressive performance at the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships, UNCW baseball, high school wrestling state championship accolades and a salute to the only high school basketball team left in the state playoffs. The third round of the high school basketball state playoffs is over. We were in heavy basketball mode on Friday with our final Full Court Press of the season. See what Brett Blizzard and Kevin Schneider had to say about Hoggard's overtime loss. On Thursday the North Carolina Tar Heels picked up a key ACC road win over Clemson. Duke was not as fortunate. Coach K and the Blue Devils got bitten by the Cavaliers on Thursday night. Former Laney swimming standout Stephen Coetzer swam the second fastest 200 individual medley time in the history of NC State. The UNCW men's swim team appears to be locked in on another CAA title. Wednesday turned out to be a fairly dramatic night in our region for second round state playoff action in high school basketball. We showcased six high school games plus the backyard Brunswick-Cape Fear men's college game. On top of that it was senior night at UNCW where Keith Rendleman and Matt Wilson both played their final game at Trask Coliseum. Full story...

On Tuesday night we provided previews of basketball games that will take place on Wednesday. It'll be senior night at UNCW on Wednesday. It's going to be farewell to Keith Rendleman and Matt Wilson. Wednesday will be the last home game for the two UNCW seniors. On Tuesday we previewed state playoff action for high school basketball. Round two of the state playoffs will tip on Wednesday. The Ashley boys basketball team picked up their first state playoff win in the history of the school on Monday night. It came against the defending 4-A state champion New Hanover Wildcats. The Hoggard boys survived at home in overtime against Terry Sanford. These weren't the only big playoff wins for area teams. In fact we had highlights from nine different games on Monday! Conference championship tournament night is in the books. The New Hanover boys won a tournament title, along with the Laney girls, the East Columbus boys, the East Columbus girls, the Whiteville boys and the Whitevile girls. State playoff action will start on Monday. Full story...

The Hoggard boys basketball team will be in the Mideastern Conference championship game for the fifth year in a row. It'll be the Vikings vs. the New Hanover Wildcats on Friday. In the Waccamaw Conference slowing the game down worked for the West Brunswick boys. They'll be in the finals on Friday. The East Bladen girls knocked off arch-rival West Bladen on Friday. Plus more!
