The streak is over. West Bladen had a 17 game winning streak over East Bladen in boys basketball until Tuesday night. East Bladen's Hastin McGill hit the game winner to give East Bladen a 46-44 win. It was the first victory for East Bladen over West Bladen since 2005. Pender defeated Trask in boys hoops. Wake Forest edged NC State. The Carolina Hurricanes lost their home opener. Full story...

The MLK Jamfest at Union High School is complete. High school basketball action started at 10 in the morning. It lasted until 9 in the evening. Full story...

Every Friday night this month on the Full Court Press we've had something dramatic happen at a basketball game that we've covered. Russell Dove is the new head football coach at West Bladen High School. Dove replaces Joe Salas who recently left West Bladen in order to take over the football program at Lumberton High School. On Monday we found out Ryan McCleney will be returning to the Wilmington Sharks as field manager for the second summer in a row. On Monday we checked out action on the hardwood between two of Wilmington's private high schools. As expected Duke is no longer ranked number one in the nation in college hoops. The Blue Devils lost to the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday. Full story...

Rasheed Brown of Trask was the frontrunner for WWAY's play of the night with a sensational slam dunk in the second quarter for Trask. It didn't end up being the play of the night though. Ashley's T.J. Williams ended up with that honor after he slammed home a dunk at the buzzer to give Ashley a one point win over New Hanover. On Tuesday night we had high school hoops from Shallotte, Boiling Spring Lakes and Wilmington. The boys basketball team at South Columbus is on a roll. Pharoah McKever led the Stallions to a 22 point victory on Tuesday with an 18 point effort. The UNCW women's basketball team snapped an eight game losing streak. Plus more! Full story...

On Monday the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes and the Wilmington Christian Academy Patriots faced each other on the hardwood in a high school basketball affair featuring two of Wilmington's private schools. It's official, Andy Reid is the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills have a new head coach too. Full story...

On Friday night WWAY provided extensive coverage from the Laney Sports Hall of Fame ceremony. The hall grew by seven. Friday was also a special night at New Hanover High School. The 2012 state champion Wildcat basketball team was honored prior to the New Hanover-New Bern game. Friday also featured a game in Leland that was marred by fan misconduct. The game started with a packed house. It finished with all the fans being ejected. Full story...
