West Bladen's DJ Mason & Hoggard's Tyler Thayer will represent the east in the annual East-West All-Star Basketball Game in July. Thayer and Mason both played for the Wilmington based Flight 22 basketball team last summer.

Veteran head coach Lenon Fisher recently stepped down as the East Bladen head football coach. His replacement has been named pending school board approval. The Eagles promoted Robbie Priest to the head coaching position.

East Bladen head football coach Lenon Fisher wanted to wait until Thursday to announce his retirement plans, but word slipped out today that the veteran coach will step down as the Eagles head football coach. Fisher has been the football coach in Elizabethtown since 1980.

After finishing the football season with a 4-7 record last season, West Brunswick High School Athletic Director John Floyd decided to go a different direction with a head coach. Floyd dismissed Jimmy Fletcher as head football coach three months ago, but that decision has been reversed.

Once the contract is signed West Bladen will have a new head football coach. The school board in Bladen County approved Joe Salas on Monday night after voting against his nomination last week.

West Bladen High School has never had much of a football tradition. Perhaps that will change soon. Veteran coach Joe Salas is expected to be named head football coach of the Knights. West Bladen finished 1-9 in 2011.
