Buzz Peterson's UNCW basketball squad opens the regular season this weekend with two games in Iowa. Cape Fear Community College will host the annual Cape Fear Classic this weekend in downtown Wilmington in men's college basketball action. Wilmington's Kadeem Allen made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of Arizona. Allen graduated from New Hanover. He also played hoops at Laney. On Thursday we had more than our fair share of high school sports. We had a full preview of week four gridiron action on the high school level. Jonathan Cooper returned to his old stomping grounds exactly one week after being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. The former Hoggard Viking spoke to after school students at the Brigade Boys & Girls Club in Wilmington. On Thursday Topsail captured the East Central crown in baseball. On Tuesday the UNCW men's basketball trailed by 50 points against the Richmond Spiders. UNCW ended up losing by 43 points. It's the third largest loss margin for the Seahawks in school history.... On Tuesday the New Hanover boys soccer team fell one game short of making it to the state title game.... On Tuesday the UNC Tar Heels made it official.
