videoA Wilmington man will spend at least 11 years in prison after admitting to sex trafficking, the District Attorney's Office says. It's the first sentence handed down for such crimes under a law that went into effect last year.

Fugitive wanted in Leland arrested in Texas

A man wanted for a sexual assault in Leland late last year has been arrested in Texas. Leland Police Sgt. Nick Jacoby says Raul Antonio Cortez was arrested last week in Midland, TX.

Wilmington man arrested for trafficking local women into prostitution; $1.2 million bond

videoInvestigators say 24-year-old Randolph Johnson Spain lured young women out of New Hanover County and then forced them into prostitution. He's now charged with human trafficking and is in the New Hanover County jail with a $1.2 million bond.

Other new NC laws taking effect Oct. 1

New laws taking effect Tuesday in North Carolina will: make clear the definition of "recreational facilities" where local governments can regulate the possession of concealed weapons. The definition includes athletic fields, swimming pools and gymnasium but doesn't include playgrounds, greenways or bike paths.
