Beach erosion from Hurricane Sandy has unearthed a section of the William H. Sumner, a three-masted scooner that ran aground in Surf City in 1919. The ship was sailing from Puerto Rico to New York when it happened.

As we told you Thursday night at 11, the Coast Guard has called off the search for missing HMS Bounty Captain Robin Walbridge.
Now, a formal inquiry into the sinking of the tall ship during hurricane Sandy is underway. A TV interview with Walbridge may also shed some light on what happened. In the August 12 interview in Maine, Walbridge said there is no such thing as bad weather.

The Coast Guard is investigating the sinking of a tall ship off the coast of North Carolina during Hurricane Sandy.
Rear Adm. Steven Ratti said Friday the review will focus on what caused the sinking of the HMS Bounty off Cape Hatteras.

Officials have released the name of a North Carolina man killed as winds from superstorm Sandy whipped through the state.
Surry County Emergency Services Director John Shelton said 25-year-old Jody Alan Davis of Mount Airy was driving a pickup Monday night about 7 p.m. when he struck a downed oak tree near Dobson.

The search for the captain of a tall ship that sank in the Atlantic during Sandy is in its third day.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill said Wednesday morning that a cutter searched for Robin Walbridge overnight and two C-130 planes would join the search during the day.
