Pancreatic cancer took the life New Hanover County judge and veteran John Carroll in May. Monday would have been his birthday.

Robinson fills open spot on New Hanover bench

Gov. Bev Perdue today appointed Robin Wicks Robinson to the District Court bench for the 5th Judicial District which covers New Hanover and Pender Counties. She will fill the vacancy created by the death of Judge John Carroll.

Friends tell us Carroll died yesterday just days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He had served on the bench in New Hanover and Pender Counties for more than a decade.

video The cops pulled him over after spotting him driving with no front tire. Investigators say Charles Holden, son of former Southport Mayor Norman Holden, admitted he had been drinking and was under the influence of prescription drugs.

New Hanover County District Court Judge to be replaced

Effective Thursday Judge John Carroll will be replaced by Judge J.H. Corpening. The news came as a shock to Carroll, who says he's proud of his accomplishments as chief judge over the past six years.
