State Sen. Martin Nesbitt dies of stomach cancer

State Sen. Martin Nesbitt, who this week stepped down as minority leader because of illness, has died. He was 67. Senate Democratic Caucus Director Ford Porter said Nesbitt died Thursday after being diagnosed last week with stomach cancer.

Nesbitt re-elected NC Senate minority leader

North Carolina state Senate Democrats will keep their same top leaders for the next two years. The incoming Senate Democratic Caucus re-elected Sen. Martin Nesbitt of Asheville as minority leader and Sen. Josh Stein of Raleigh as minority whip.
