A fair number of high school basketball teams opened the season on Tuesday night. We had game action involving Ashley, Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian Academy. In fact Ashley boys head basketball coach Webster Guthrie picked up a win in his first game as the head coach of the Screaming Eagles. The public high schools aren't permitted to play regular season basketball games until next Monday. Some teams won't even tip off the new season until December. That's not the case for Coastal Christian. The Centurions opened the 2014-15 basketball season on Wednesday night. Of course, we were there. Full story...

Five student athletes participated in a signing ceremony on Wednesday at New Hanover High. In the lacrosse state playoffs the New Hanover boys team eliminated Laney by the slimmest of margin in round one. Plus more! Full story...

13 is not considered to be a lucky number. Superstitious or not, 13 is now the losing streak for the UNCW men's basketball team after another tough loss at home against a conference foe. Laney hosted a special ceremony on Wednesday. Michael Jordan's replica jersey now hangs on the wall in Buctown, but the New Hanover Wildcats swept the action on the floor. Plus more! Full story...

Laney linebacker Coult Culler signed a national letter intent on Wednesday to play college football at NC State. Culler is not the only local football headed to the ACC. On Wednesday night we checked out the Wilmington Hammerheads at a meet and greet. Wilmington's pro soccer squad will open the 2013 regular season at home on Friday against Antigua at Legion Stadium.
