A lockdown has been lifted at Cape Fear Academy after a gas main break near the campus. The break was reported shortly before 4 p.m. in the 3900 block of South College Road. Emergency crews have closed traffic in both directions as they work to stop the leaking gas.

It's Fire Prevention Week and to start it off, the Wilmington Fire Department and New Hanover County Fire Rescue are targeting senior citizens in their effort to provide safety information. Firefighters are delivering Meals on Wheels all week, talking to senior residents about fire safety and checking their smoke detectors.
