A man convicted of murder in Florida and Georgia is accepting a life prison sentence without parole after pleading guilty in North Carolina to ambushing and killing an elderly couple hiking in a national forest.

The U.S. Forest Service plans to begin a 1,200-acre prescribed burn in the Bearpen Mountain area in of the Pisgah Ranger District in the Pisgah National Forest.
