The Wilmington City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night to consider the annexation of a new shopping center in the Ogden area.
New Hanover County Planning and Zoning Supervisor Ben Andrea says the Atlanta-based Halpern Development Company withdrew its petition to rezone property for a grocery store in the Ogden MarketPlace.
In February the company submitted the re-zoning petition to construct the first reported Publix in Wilmington. This month the company withdrew that petition. Andrea says he does not know why.
Publix, a Florida-based supermarket chain, is looking for sites to build a store in the Port City area, said Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo on Thursday.
