STORMTRACK 3: Tornado Watch canceled for several counties

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The National Weather Service has canceled a Tornado Watch for Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, Onslow, and Duplin Counties Monday. A watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development.

National Weather Service confirms NC tornado

The National Weather Service says it was an EF-2 tornado that struck rural Beaufort County, destroying two homes and damaging at least six more. Meteorologist Jim Merrell of the National Weather Service office in Newport said the storm was up to 300 yards wide when it struck Monday. He said the storm's track length hasn't been determined.

Two homes destroyed, more damaged by NC storm

Three people, including a woman who is eight months pregnant, are still in the hospital following the touch down of an apparent tornado in rural Beaufort County. Beaufort County Emergency Management Director John Pack says no one suffered serious injuries from the storm that destroyed two houses and significantly damaged six other homes on Monday afternoon.

National Weather Service confirms tornado in Atlantic Beach

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Atlantic Beach. It was an EF2 tornado, and had wind speeds between 111 to 135 mph, according to the NWS.
