Two NC ski resorts open on heels of weekend snow

Two out of North Carolina's half-dozen ski resorts are open for business and fun after an early snow hit parts of the state's mountains. Sugar Mountain Resort and Cataloochee Ski Area opened Sunday for their winter season Sunday.

Weekend snow possible in NC mountains

The first snow of the season could fall this weekend in the mountains of western North Carolina. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for 11 counties from Friday evening through Saturday evening.

It's March, but winter has not given up in North Carolina. School systems dismissed classes early Monday after the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of the central and eastern parts of the state.

Snow and ice are accumulating around the region, as the latest winter storm hits southeastern North Carolina. Late this morning the National Weather Service updated its advisory to put the entire area under a Winter Storm Warning.
