Drivers trying to get to and from Pleasure Island are getting a break from traffic tie-ups. All four lanes on Snow's Cut Bridge are back open, and just in time for the summer rush.

afternoon, and construction on the Snow's Cut Bridge is to blame. Signs directed cars to shift to the left lane over 2 miles away from the bridge, causing a stand-still in traffic. Drivers say what used to be a quick drive to and from work has turned into a headache.

After weeks of delays, a long-term work project on the Snow's Cut Bridge has begun. One lane in each direction will be closed for about four months But with the holidays right around the corner, businesses on Pleasure Island have mixed feelings about the timing of the project.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) says work originally scheduled to begin today on the Snow's Cut Bridge will not start, due to Hurricane Sandy blowing through the region.
