The Fred Lynch Invitational tips off on Monday at six different locations in New Hanover County. 50 high school basketball teams will be competing in the three day event. The Ashley boys basketball team won't be competing in the event as the Screaming Eagles are in the middle of a coaching change. The Wilmington Hammerheads FC hosted their Major League Soccer affiliate Toronto FC in a friendly match on Wednesday night at Legion Stadium. Former New Hanover Wildcat soccer standout Ross Tomaselli made his Hammerheads debut in Toronto's 2-1 victory. Full story...

Carolina Beach hosted the national championship for beach wrestling in 2013 and 2014. On Tuesday we found out the event will be returning to Carolina Beach for the next two years. The Wilmington Hammerheads FC and Oklahoma City Energy FC ended in a 2-2 draw at Legion Stadium on Friday night. This is the only scheduled meeting between the two teams during the USL PRO season. Three of Oklahoma City's players actually played for Wilmington last season: Gareth Evans, Kyle Greig and Steven Perry. Full story...

Ten years ago, a little boy from Alden Elementary died in a freak accident. This year, Cape Fear Soccer Club decided to honor the former member with a tournament in his name. The Evans Cup Outreach Invitational was Saturday in honor of the late Evan Peck. Full story...

The baseball season ended on Friday night for UNCW. Only two teams remain alive in the quest for a CAA Baseball Championship: William & Mary and the College of Charleston. The Wilmington Hammerheads erupted with five goals on Friday night at Legion Stadium. In the state playoffs Topsail and Whiteville both advance in the baseball state playoffs on Friday. Don't look now, but the Wilmington Hammerheads are suddenly one of the hottest teams in USL Pro Soccer. They've won their last two games. Saturday's game against Charleston was a bit chippy, especially in the second half. Jordan Hamilton, on loan from MLS Toronto FC, scored the only goal of the game for Wilmington.
