Conference tournament week is over in high school basketball. Hoggard High pulled off a sweep on Friday in the Mideastern Conference winning both the boys and girls basketball tournament title. Whiteville won the boys title in the Three Rivers Conference. East Columbus won the girls championship. On top of that, Friday's Full Court Press showcased the plays of the 2014-15 high school basketball season for boys. Check it out! Full story...

The UNCW women's basketball team had one of their better efforts of the season on Thursday night. The Seahawks held off Elon at Trask Coliseum. In high school basketball we showcased the South Columbus-West Columbus doubleheader. South won both games, but it appears senior standout Leroy Miller may be out for the season with a shoulder injury. Full story...

Despite the short distance teams from New Hanover County rarely travel to Bladen County to play basketball, but Ashley High did make the trip on Monday night in order to face East Bladen. We also made the trip in order to check out hoops from two different locations: Ashley vs. East Bladen and South Columbus vs. West Bladen. Full story...

The South Columbus football team lost their first four games of the 2014 regular season. The Stallions have been able to make a tremendous turnaround after making a few adaptations to their offense. As a result they've won five of their last six games. We made a trip to Stallion territory to honor South Columbus with the WWAY Farm Bureau Insurance Mayfaire Team of the Week award. Full story...

The NC State-Syracuse affair was a game of firsts for head football coach Dave Doeren and redshirt freshman Pharoah McKever. Doeren earned his first ACC victory as the Wolfpack head coach. McKever, a graduate of South Columbus High, returned an interception for a touchdown. It was McKever's first collegiate interception and his first Wolfpack touchdown as well. Full story...

Hoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. Prior to the event we caught up with UNCW Seahawk golfer Kayla Thompson. The UNCW freshman is a graduate of West Bladen High. Full story...

Former South Columbus Stallion football standout Ethan Farmer says the UNC Tar Heel defense is getting better. Farmer and the Tar Heels host Georgia Tech on Saturday. On Tuesday on WWAY we featured the latest AP high school football poll, volleyball from Cape Fear Community College along with Coastal Christian's soccer win over Cape Fear Academy.
