Former New Hanover swimming standout Cari Blalock is headed to the US Olympic Trials. The Wilmington resident recently qualified in four different events. This will not be the first time for the UNC Tar Heel swimmer at the US Olympic Trials. She also competed in 2008, but Blalock only qualified in one event that year.

Former New Hanover Wildcat Cari Blalock earned a huge honor this week at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Women's Championship in Alabama. The Wilmington resident is now an Honorable Mention All-America swimmer. Blalock helped lead North Carolina to a 19th place finish at the NCAA meet.

Former New Hanover High swimmer Cari Blalock is clearly one of the most accomplished swimmers to come out of Wilmington in several years. Blalock will be heading to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships later this month.

Round three of the high school basketball playoffs is complete. Due to severe weather on Friday several playoff games were held on Saturday afternoon. The UNCW men's basketball team also played on Saturday. It turned out to be one of the worst defeats of the season for Buzz Peterson's squad. The UNCW men's swimming team once again is the CAA champ. Wilmington's Cari Blalock set a school record on Saturday for the North Carolina Tar Heels at the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships in Virginia. Blalock's school record time nearly earned the New Hanover High grad a first place finish in the women's 200 butterfly, but Blalock finished in second place to go along with two third place finishes in other events earlier in the week.

Former New Hanover High School swimmer Cari Blalock earned All-ACC honors on Thursday with a third place finish in the women's 200 IM at the ACC Swimming & Diving Championship. This is Blalock's first season at the University of North Carolina. Last year she swam for the LSU Tigers.

The LSU women's swimming and diving team capped off the 2010-11 season with its first top-15 NCAA finish in 18 years on Saturday. Wilmington's Cari Blalock is a freshman swimmer at LSU.
