Former Laney swimmer earns honorable mention All-American status

The 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship concluded on Saturday night. Laney graduate Stephen Coetzer earned honorable mention All-American status for his performance in the 200 backstroke. Coetzer is a junior at NC State. As a team NC State finished in 15th at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship. That was the highest finish among the ACC schools.

UNCW claims 13th straight CAA swimming title

By a whisker the UNCW men's swimming team captured the CAA title on Saturday night. It's the 13th consecutive CAA title for Dave Allen's squad. In a winner take all event UNC Wilmington's 400 yard freestyle relay team won the last event of the night to secure the CAA title. On a related note former Laney swimmer Stephen Coetzer helped lead NC State to a second place finish at the ACC Swimming Championship with a school record performance.

Blalock leads UNC to 2nd at ACC meet

New Hanover High graduate Cari Blalock continues to rack up points for the North Carolina Tar Heels at the ACC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship. Blalock finished in second place in the 200 women’s butterfly on Saturday night in Greensboro. As a team UNC finished second, behind Virginia. On Friday the Wilmington resident captured first place in the 400 individual medley.

videoIt was a "Wildcat" type of night in basketball in the Mideastern Conference. Both the New Hanover boys and girls won tournament titles on Friday. In the Four County Conference East Bladen captured the girls title. Clinton won the boys title. We had highlights and post-game reaction from all four games on the Full Court Press. Check it out.
