State Highway Patrol Investigators say a Tar Heel firefighter was speeding on his way to a fire call when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an oncoming car.

About 25 different fire departments from throughout North Carolina responded to David Hunsinger Jr.'s last call Sunday. Hunsinger was a firefighter at the Tar Heel Fire Department in Bladen County. Some traveled hours to honor someone they didn't even know. But to them, he was a brother.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of a fallen firefighter, husband, son, brother and friend. The volunteer firefighter died on the way to a call in Bladen County yesterday.
