Tuesday high school sports roundup + a former Ashley pitcher goes 3 innings against ECU

videoFirst place was on the line in softball at the Ashley/Laney game and Trask/West Bladen. We checked out both of those on our 11pm sports. In college baseball Trevor Kelley pitched three innings on Tuesday for North Carolina against East Carolina. We showcased that too. Plus more!

videoT.J. Warren, Leslie McDonald and Andre Dawkins had more than their fair share of impressive basketball plays in Burgaw on Thursday night. It was Warren's first professional game since declaring himself eligible for the NBA Draft. We had high school baseball action on Thursday. This included the New Hanover-Hoggard showdown and Wallace-Rose vs. Trask. Plus more!

WWAY's Tuesday night sports - March 4

videoOn Tuesday we checked out practice at Trask Coliseum. Buzz Peterson and the UNCW Seahawks need to win four games over a four day stretch to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The odds are against the Seahawks, but stranger things have happened. The UNCW baseball team lost the final game of their west coast trip. On Tuesday we showcased former Hoggard pitcher Bryan Sammons. The lefty beat Clemson in his first career start. Regional play is underway for high school basketball. Check out our preview. WWAY's Full Court Press - Feb. 28

videoIt's heartbreak city for fans of New Hanover High. The Panther Creek boys basketball team stuck a dagger in New Hanover at the final buzzer to end the season for the Wildcats. WWAY was there for the dramatic finish. On Friday's Full Court Press we had extensive state playoff coverage from five different games: New Hanover's heartbreaking loss at the buzzer, West Brunswick's nailbiting victory over Southern Durham, a Trask come from behind win against Whiteville, East Bladen's come from behind thriller against Southern Vance and another nailbiter from East Columbus where the Gators won by one point.

Times are set for regional play

Game times are set for the sectionals of the high school basketball state playoffs. The Trask boys, West Brunswick boys, East Bladen girls and East Columbus girls are all headed to Fayetteville.
