UNCW interim chancellor responds to athletic cuts

videoStudent athletes at UNCW got a chance to speak out at a meeting about recent cuts to the athletic department Thursday. It comes after the university announced it was cutting 4 sports next year, namely track and field, and adding sand volleyball.

Laney-WWAY Invitational set to tip in November

videoLaney High School and WWAY will team up in late November for the Laney-WWAY Thanksgiving Invitational. It'll be a two day basketball event. All games will be held at the Michael Jordan Gymnasium. We have details on the updated schedule of play.

UNCW releases men's basketball schedule

videoUNCW men's basketball head coach Kevin Keatts will carry his revamped team to challenging venues at Louisville and Minnesota early in the 2014-15 season. The 18-game CAA schedule features several of the league's top teams in the first month of the new year.

UNCW names new swimming head coach

videoThe search to replace the only head coach in the history of UNCW swimming is over. Dave Allen's replacement has been named. Jason Memont, who swam collegiately at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and enjoyed successful coaching stints at William & Mary and South Carolina, has been named UNCW’s head swimming and diving coach.

Both UNCW tennis teams headed to NCAA's

Tennis seniors earn top honors at UNCW sports banquet

videoUNCW parlayed a sweep of the recent Colonial Athletic Association Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships and the stars of those two teams, Rafael Aita and Angie Sekely, received the Thomas V. Moseley Awards as UNCW's top student-athletes for 2013-14 at Monday's athletic awards banquet at the Burney Center.

Sensational Sunday for Seahawks

It was an historic weekend for sports at UNCW. The Seahawks won the CAA Women's Tennis Championship along with the CAA Men's Tennis Championship. On top of that the UNCW baseball team prevailed over Towson on Easter Sunday.

Keatts formally introduced as UNCW head coach

videoKevin Keatts is now officially a Seahawk. Keatts was introduced to the "Seahawk Nation" on Tuesday at a public event at UNCW's Trask Coliseum. He's the tenth men's head basketball coach in the history of UNCW.

FIRST ON 3: UNCW track captain racially harassed on campus by five white men

video It came to our attention today that Brent Campbell, a rising senior and captain of the UNCW men’s track team, was training on the Intramural fields at around 3pm in front of New Hanover gym when a blue pickup truck with 5 white male individuals drove past him several times and made derogatory racial comments.

WWAY's Tuesday night sports - July 16; Trot Nixon takes youth baseball team to regionals

videoTrot Nixon no longer plays professional baseball, but he remains involved in baseball by coaching his youngest son's youth baseball team. Nixon's Supper Optimist squad will compete in the SE Regional starting this Thursday in Virginia. Wilmington Post 10 secured a spot in the state legion tournament with a playoff win on Tuesday over Whiteville Post 137. Plus more!
