Times have been better in Seahawk basketball land. It appears UNCW will be banned from post-season play next season due to previous academic difficulties. Three players recently transferred. On Sunday might a Dallas newspaper reported UNCW head coach Buzz Peterson may be heading to SMU as an assistant coach if Larry Brown is awarded the vacant head coaching job for the Mustangs. On Tuesday night the New Hanover County School Board recognized the New Hanover boys basketball team for winning the 4-A state championship in high school basketball. WWAY was there for that. John Calipari played college basketball at UNC Wilmington for one season. It wasn't the happiest period of his life, nor was it a time full of playing time. On Monday night Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats beat Kansas in New Orleans in the national championship game. It's Calipari's first national title. Full story...

The UNCW men's basketball team has had more than fair share of players leave over the last few seasons. It now appears three more Seahawks may be heading out of town in order to play basketball elsewhere. Three Seahawks have asked for their official release. Full story...

College of Charleston men's basketball head coach Bobby Cremins announced his retirement on Monday. UNCW grad Mark Byington is currently the interim head basketball coach at Charleston. Some people close to the situation speculate Byington will be named the permanent head basketball in Charleston in the near future. Full story...

They're dancing again. For the second year in a row the UNC Wilmington women's basketball team earned an invitation to a post-season tournament. The Seahawks received their invite late Monday night. UNCW will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Thursday at Trask Coliseum in the 15th Annual Women's National Invitation Tournament. It's not the NCAA, but the WNIT is the best alternative. UNCW's run in the CAA Women's Basketball Tournament came to a crashing halt on Saturday afternoon when the Seahawks ran into the nationally ranked Delaware Blue Hens. Cynthia Cooper Dyke's team drops to 20-12 record with the loss. The Seahawks must now play the waiting game. They're hoping to receive a bid to the WNIT for the second year in a row. Full story...
