Two-time champion Purdue shot a blistering 5-under-par 283 and South Carolina's Nanna Madsen soared to the top of the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 66 as the opening day of the 13th Landfall Tradition drew to a close Friday at the Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course. Hoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. Prior to the event we caught up with UNCW Seahawk golfer Kayla Thompson. The UNCW freshman is a graduate of West Bladen High. Full story...

Media Day, one of the long traditions in college basketball, took place on Wednesday for Kevin Keatts and the 2014-15 UNCW Seahawks. We were there in order to check out this year's team. Former South Columbus football standout Ethan Farmer says the UNC Tar Heel defense will continue to make progress. The 22nd-ranked UNCW Seahawks will host 10th-ranked UNC Chapel Hill on Tuesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The UNC Tar Heels and the NC State Wolfpack football teams both lost over the weekend. We have reaction from former South Columbus Stallion Ethan Farmer and NC State head coach Dave Doeren. Wilmington's Wil Baumann has been named the national punter of the week for his performance on the field over the weekend in Raleigh. We caught up with the NC State punter after the game in order to get his thoughts on his impressive performance. The UNCW men's soccer team now has two victories this season over a nationally ranked opponent. The first one occurred last Friday. The Seahawks picked up their second on Tuesday. Thanks to a bit of creative editing a pair of New Hanover soccer players danced backwards on our sportscast on Monday night on WWAY. The UNCW women's soccer team didn't dance on Monday, but the Seahawks did shutout Coastal Carolina. Former Ashley soccer standout Stanley Broaden scored twice for Appalachian State on Monday.
